I find is fascinating how fast children grow into teenagers. I absolutely love Amazon because when a sudden growth spurts hits, I can easily search and find a tennis show for under $50. My youngest is now 15.

Children are TAUGHT to be materialistic
I purposely don't glorify brands. In regards to shoes I do try to stick with Nike or puma. They seem to last longer and need fewer replacements. That being said, I try to get the cheapest version of said brand. I refuse to pay over $100 for shoes the child will literally grow out of within a year or so.
