I use everyday life activities as a teaching opportunity. Don't get me wrong, we have plenty of formal lessons through many curriculums like Khanacademy.org for example.
Some homeschool parents don't take advantage of lessons like this. In reality at least in my generation, I had the opportunity of experiencing a home economics class in public high school. Since we homeschool, the world is my oyster. Activities such as cooking, shopping and outdoor activities can quickly be turned into homeschool lessons.

A perfect example of this was the video listed above. I went into the store to do comparison shopping. This is a lesson I've already repeated with my son on multiple occasions. After the season premiere of adulting 101 I started sending him in the store alone. Eventually he got better at comparison shopping.
