Black managed businesses | pt. 3

Writer: Dawn M. WilliamsDawn M. Williams

What I can't stand about the businesses I've rented booths from is the gaslighting. The manipulative tactic of utilizing phrases such as "it takes a village " or "teamwork " is ridiculous. I find those phrases are used when the desired end result is tricking tenants into preforming duties that they weren't contractually obligated to do.

In the above podcast episode I reflect on an instance where a black business owner utilized this ridiculous tactic. She wanted us to pay for lockers that will go inside of her salon. She used the "teamwork" phrase since we were going to be using the lockers.

The thing about it is that if it was "teamwork" ,one of the following will be true

● We will be able to write it off on our taxes

● We will be able to have the option of taking the lockers with us when we left

●We will have the option of picking out the preferred color that we desired.
